Ron became involved in Read To Succeed through the influence of Executive Director, Lisa Mitchell. He was motivated by a desire to do something to service the people of Rutherford County. Read To Succeed offers a very unique opportunity to help adults who either have never learned to read or are learning to read and speak English as a second language. As one who has been blessed by reading good books, he has a strong desire to assist others in developing that ability to enrich their lives.
An inability to read not only deprives people of the pleasure and development that comes from reading, it is also creates numerous difficulties with things that most of us take for granted. Simple tasks like obtaining a driver’s license or paying bills, while not impossible, are certainly more difficult for one who cannot read.
Ron is very interested in adult literacy. There are few gifts one could give that would be more beneficial than the ability to read. A real sense of satisfaction comes from seeing the confidence and excitement shown by someone developing that ability.
Staff say that they appreciate Ron’s dedication as an adult literacy tutor and to improving lives through teaching. He is truly a shining star to them and the lives he touches!
