On September 29, 2018, Stones River National Battlefield and our partners will join thousands of volunteers across the nation in celebrating the 25th year of National Public Lands Day by working to preserve and improve our public lands. We will remove invasive exotic plants, modern fencing and trash from the park’s McFadden Farm unit located at 2600 Van Cleve Lane. In the process, we will improve the condition of the battlefield and the Stones River watershed.
We are asking individuals and groups to pre-register by contacting Claire Casey at 615-893-9501 or by email at claire_casey@partner.nps.gov. We have a limited capacity to supervise this project and will close registration once we have registered 150 volunteers.
We will need groups of six or more volunteers to have one person per every 6-8 volunteers attend one of our Squad Boss training sessions and learn how to lead their fellow volunteers in the day’s work.
Volunteers should bring work gloves and wear long sleeved shirts, work pants, and closed toe shoes. Volunteers should also bring a water bottle.
Lunch will be provided at noon by Walmart and the Friends of Stones River National Battlefield.
