Job Title: Activity Assistant (Part-Time/On-Call)
Immediate Supervisor: Program Director

As an Part-Time/On-Call Activity Assistant you are expected to be available on an unscheduled basis, you will only work as needed. Monday – Friday possibly with short notice.

The Activity Assistant is responsible for leading age appropriate activities/projects for participants, promoting mind stimulation, socialization and exercise, which enhance social skills, cognitive ability, physical health, and sense of accomplishment. In the absence of the Program Director, the Activity Assistant is responsible to the Executive Director. A high level of independent judgment is needed in decision making and in completing required duties.

To succeed as an Activities Assistant, you should strive to stage entertaining, engaging activities that will appeal to the age and physical or emotional condition of the participants. You should be observant, driven, creative, and caring.

Essential Duties:

Report for work on time and perform job responsibilities in a timely manner.

Assist Program Director with supervision and evaluation of all daily, weekly and monthly activities for ADS participants

Must be able to possess age appropriate activities that accommodate elders 55+

Lead/assist with at least four (4) activities daily including arts/crafts, physical exercise, trivia games etc.

Generate enthusiasm; lead/design activities that encourage mind stimulation, socialization, provide entertainment, and fulfillment

Assist in working with volunteers and practicum students in communication skills necessary for working with older individuals with dementia and/or cognitive impairment.

Stand for up to one hour, sit, stoop, and walk intermittently and lift objects weighing up to 20 pound

Qualifications and Required Abilities:

-Minimum of a High School Diploma or G.E.D.
-Must be at least 21 years of age.
-Experience working with elderly population; ability to perform required tasks of caring for elders with dementia (kind heart, patience, and compassionate spirit required)
-Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English
-Must have legal authorization to work in the United States
-Must pass a pre-employment background investigation; Must not have been convicted of or pleaded guilty to or entered a plea of any felony charge or to any violation of any federal or state laws or city ordinances relating to force, violence, theft, or controlled substances
Excellent human relations/communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively and deal courteously with the public, fellow employees, volunteers, participants, families and or caregivers on the telephone or in person
Obtain CPR training within (1 month) of employment
