The VA Tennessee Valley Healthcare System is committed to improving the health of Veterans through a comprehensive and high quality system, which focuses on each patient’s special needs. The integrated system provides an environment that fosters healthcare research and encourages learning and growth for veterans, family and staff.

TVHS provides ambulatory care, primary care and secondary care in acute medicine and surgery, specialized tertiary care, transplant services, spinal cord injury, outpatient care and a full range of extended care and mental health services. The Nashville Campus is the only VA facility that supports all solid organ transplant programs, including total in-house kidney and bone marrow transplants. The Alvin C. York Campus is a network referral center for mental health services, geriatrics, and extended care. TVHS provides a full range of specialized medical services.

 

Opportunities to serve ON SITE:  

Volunteer Shuttle Drivers- Volunteer shuttle drivers transport Veterans, family members, visitors and staff from the parking lot to buildings on campus. Shuttle drivers must be at least 18 years of age, have a valid Tennessee driver’s license, provide proof of insurance and complete driver training annually. Volunteers must possess excellent communication and people skills. They request that volunteer drivers commit to at least one 4 to 8 hour shift per week between 7:30 a.m. and 4p.m.
 

Voluntary Service Office Receptionist- Duties include answering phones, greeting customers, filing, copying and taking messages. A volunteer is needed Tuesdays and Thursdays for a 4 to 8 hour shift between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. Excellent communication and people skills are a must.

Assorted personal hygiene items (examples include: shampoo, deodorant, shaving cream, razors, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc.)

Gift Cards to gas stations and grocery stores

Paperback Books

Current Magazines (within 4 months)

How to volunteer: 

Interested volunteers should contact the Voluntary Service Office at 615-225-4533 to obtain an application packet. Volunteers will be required to have a tuberculosis skin test, background check (if 18 or older) and attend a new volunteer orientation session.
